Working for a Safer, Fairer and Healthier Lancashire

Lancashire is a ceremonial county in Northwest England. The administrative centre of Lancashire County Council is Preston. The county has a population of over 1.2 million and an area of 1,189 square miles.

Lancashire is a place we’re proud of and we’re proud of our County Council too.

Lancashire County Council is undergoing an exciting period of transformation, as we seek to become a more effective and more efficient organisation at a time when demand for services is growing and the available resources are limited. We remain committed to our job of serving the people of Lancashire by providing first class services and by making the County an even better place to live and work.

Lancashire County Council is looking to appoint to two Consultant in Public Health/Public Health Medicine positions on a permanent basis, for candidates who in addition to proficient technical capability are proven system leaders, committed to tackling health inequalities and to leading a successful programme of public health responsibility within Local Government and the NHS.

The roles

The successful candidates will bring energy, drive and innovation to make a difference, working through the challenges to improve outcomes for people in Lancashire.

Each role will involve directing the work of the team, acting as the strategic lead for the portfolio across Lancashire and being a key member of the senior leadership team within the council.

Lead Public Health areas of responsibility will be negotiated in a job plan but at the time of appointment it is expected that the roles will focus on the following:

Role 1 – Consultant in Public Health/Public Health Medicine (Health Protection and Health Intelligence)

Role 2 – Consultant in Public Health/Public Health Medicine (Health Improvement)

The post holders will work in collaboration with other colleagues within public health, council directorates, the Integrated Care Board, the wider NHS, 12 district councils and the voluntary sector. They will establish and maintain a wide range of working relationships and a good understanding of the context of services in the County which impact on health and health inequalities.

We invite applications from individuals on the GMC/GDC Specialist Register/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) who are skilled at managing relationships and negotiating across a wide range of organisations, who understand the challenges faced by local authorities and the Health Service, and who will display strong leadership in contributing to the work of our dynamic public health team.
